Title: All for the Love of a Cowboy
Author: N. Jade Gray
Genre: Romance, Time-Travel, Historical
Mitchell Reeves is in trouble. Someone is sabotaging his ranch, cattle are missing, his sister is testing her wings, and his quarrel with a neighboring rancher has heated to boiling. Adding a beautiful woman who claims to be from the future couldn't come at a worse time.
Computer programmer Rachel Morgan understands machines, but fails with the opposite sex. When a dog plays chicken with her car, her bad week becomes worse when she wakes to find herself in the past—in a very hunky, very delusional cowboy’s bed. Time spent in Mitchell’s company causes an unexpected glitch in Rachel’s determination to get home. Love. Found in the most startling place and time. Could she go home, if she had the chance, without knowing his true feelings? When unwanted attention from another man turns to kidnapping, Rachel is torn between wishing she were home… and risking it all for the love of a cowboy.
The shadows from the buildings on the ranch came into view. She shifted on the wagon’s seat and tried not to shudder at the eeriness the darkness created. All of the ranch hands seemed to still be in town, even the bunkhouse lay silent. Moving a little closer to Mitchell, she glanced from under her eyelashes to study his darkened profile. Had he realized yet they would be all alone at the ranch? She shivered in anticipation.
Pulling up in front of the ranch house, Rachel jumped as a loud bang rent through the night. Gazing back toward town, she saw the first of the fireworks being shot into the nighttime sky. Closing her eyes, she could mentally visualize the crowd as they oohed and aahed over the colorful bursts as they lit the sky.
As the last of the display disappeared from the sky, Mitchell leaped down from the wagon and turned to help her down. He ignored the hand she had extended and instead reached up, encircled her waist, and brought her down to stand in front of him. Gazing into her eyes he murmured, “You know I never got my dance you promised.”
She smiled. “Mr. Reeves, I do believe I’m available.”
Humming a tune she had heard earlier in the evening, she placed one hand on his shoulder and the other on his lean waist. She could feel the heat emitting from his chest as he drew her closer and waltzed around the yard. The darkness didn’t seem so scary cradled in his arms.
His tawny amber stare reflected a desire that had her stomach turning summersaults. Her humming stopped abruptly as she caught her breath. Awareness crackled between them as their bodies slowed and stopped.
His head descended slowly, and his kiss caught the sigh escaping her lips.
The brush of his mustache tickled until his firm lips settled unyieldingly on her own. All coherent thought raced from her mind as he softly nibbled, teased, and feasted. His mouth left her own, blazed a fiery trail across her cheek to her ear, and nibbled gently on her lobe. A slow burn began in the pit of her stomach as he whispered in her ear and took another nibble of her lobe.
He paused. “You smell so good.”
His husky breath spread down her neck as she tipped her head back to give him access to her neck.
He released her hands and gently pulled her closer to his frame.
She could feel his body’s reaction to their closeness as she naively rubbed against him. A groan tore from his lips as she slowly wrapped her arms around his body and inched them upward to furrow into his hair. His Stetson fell unheeded to the ground. She couldn’t believe how soft and sexy his hair felt beneath her fingers as she ran them through the silken mane.
Passion. Fireworks. She heard him moan. He drew back and gazed into her eyes. She felt him drawing away mentally and physically. She missed his warmth immediately. “Did I do something wrong?”
His hand shook as he threaded it through his hair. “It’s not you, Rachel, it’s me.” He looked around at the darkened ranch. “Things were getting a little out of hand, and I shouldn’t take advantage of us being alone. I know better.”
Rachel slowly backed away and bit her swollen lower lip. “I guess we shouldn’t do anything you will regret in the morning.” Why did he have to be the voice of reason? Fighting tears, she blurted, “I’ve seen you with the saloon girl.” Swallowing hard she continued, “I understand I’m not the type of woman you usually desire. I’m sorry I made a pest of myself.” Tears spilled as she turned and fled into the house.
“Rachel, that’s not…” The shutting door broke off what he intended to say. “That’s not what I meant at all,” he muttered.
He bent to retrieve his hat and beat it against his leg. What a mess! He stared at the house. Should he try to talk to her? Explain? Hell, he didn’t even know why he acted like he did. How was he going to justify his actions?
He sighed, grabbed the reins of the waiting horses, and led them toward the barn to unhook the wagon. He shook his head. The night was going to be long.

What’s your favorite thing about the Fall season:
The nip in the air in the mornings and the chance to light a firepit at night. And the disappearance of the mosquito for the season!
What inspired you to write this story:
In my youth I used to go backpacking in the San Juan Mountains in the Durango, Colorado area. I still love going to that area to vacation. In this book I combine the love of the area with the fascination with Cowboys and an era gone by.
