Title: Part-Time Criminal
Author: Mark Love
Genre: Mystery, Crime Fiction
Book Blurb:
“Some people are born criminals. Others are driven to it.”
There could be a kernel of truth to that statement. Perhaps some people, ordinary, regular law-abiding citizens, are doing their part, working their jobs, when something happens that tilts their world.
Consider Simon Ellis. A quiet, steady guy. He keeps his head down, always working in the background, taking care of business.
Until that fateful day.
When something comes to light that changes how he sees the world.
Will Simon just let it go and continue as before?
Will he be driven to something else?
Something criminal.
My Review:
Simon is an ordinary IT guy, nothing flashy, who prefers staying in the background. Brick is a slimy sales manager who takes advantage of everyone and anyone, including clients and Simon. When Simon overhears Brick boasting, a plan percolates in Simon’s mind. Nothing evil, just a little payback. Will Simon turn criminal, part-time at least?
Part-Time Criminal is the secret wish of anyone who’s had a smarmy boss or co-worker. A mystery with a bit of humor, Part-Time Criminal is a wonderful read. Mark Love takes a regular guy and shows what can happen when he acts on an impulse. The narration is full of humor and there’s even a dash of romance.
My favorite character is, of course, Simon. Like I said above, he’s an ordinary guy. His life is routine. Nothing showy or sexy about him. Yet, he’s an instrument of truth. We all want to do what Simon does to get back at a boss or co-worker. It’s hilarious, smart, and subtle. Such a fun character to root for!
Mark Love has penned a delightful mystery novella. The writing is fresh and different. I highly recommend Part-Time Criminal.
