Title: Cabanas, Cupids, & Corpses

Author: Louise Stevens

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Book Blurb:

It’s Valentine’s Day in Port Sunset and romance, fun, and murder are in the air. Yep, murder. I’m Millie Wentworth the assistant General Manager of the Gulf Palms Resort. And since our sleepy beach town comes with a body count to rival any big city, I’m an amateur sleuth on the side.

The hotel is hosting a Masquerade Ball and half the attendees are dressed as Cupid. When someone is shot through the heart with a bow and arrow there is no shortage of suspects since Cupids are everywhere. And the victim was so awful lots of people had reason to do her in...seriously...LOTS. Including me.

As usual Detective Green’s laser focus is aimed at the wrong suspects. When my fun-loving grandmother Lulu, Spud the corgi, and I discover another body we need to find the real murderer pronto. Can we catch the killer Cupid before they strike again?

My Review:

Are you ready for another exciting Millie Wentworth mystery? Everyone is celebrating all things cupid, including Lulu’s Crew, Spud, and Millie. But when cupid’s arrow leads to murder, not love, it’ll take all of Millie’s sleuthing skills to nab the killer. Sounds like a great premise, eh?

I always enjoy these cozy mysteries. They have a consistent plot, engaging characters, hilarious dialogue, a murder to solve, and the setting is picturesque Florida. In this cozy mystery, it’s got a valentine vibe, complete with a ball starring various cupids.

The descriptive narration is solid, especially with the setting. Louise Stevens details each scene so the reader can visualize what’s happening and the events taking place.

The plot is laid out like the others in the series. It’s fairly predictable but that’s not a bad thing. I like knowing what to expect. There are certain places where the plot progression slows but the ending makes up for it.

The characters are well-conceived and run their course. Millie continues to grow in this story, being more assertive and such. Lulu’s Crew are a ton of fun. Their snappy comebacks will have you in stitches.

If you’re a cozy mystery reader, you’ll enjoy this book. I look forward to the next zany adventure of Millie, Spud, and Lulu’s Crew.

My Rating: 5 stars
