N. N. Light's Book Heaven presents D.V. Stone #authorspotlight #fantasyromance #romance #romantasy #mustread

Thank you, N. N. Light’s Book Heaven, for sharing your space with me. Congratulations on your anniversary. Such a milestone to be celebrated. My husband and I will be commemorating thirty years in May. Anniversaries are the best.

To those who aren’t familiar with me, my name is D. V. Stone. You can call me D. I’m an author who came to this later in life. How late? Let’s just say I remember rotary phones. I’m vintage. Or if you like seasoned. What do I enjoy when not writing? Good grief, the world is an adventure. Life is, too! I love travel and history. Trolling vintage, flea, and antique markets while camping, or actually glamping, is at the top of my list. I collect owlish things. One of my favorite places is sitting around the campfire with a good book and a glass of wine.

What do I like to read, you ask? Well, usually several books are going at once. One Kindle, one tangible, and one audio. Why pick one when you can have it all? My go-to is fantasy but also contemporary. I love young adult and paranormal. I’m a sucker for a good ghost story. What is the common denominator in these? I like at least a touch of romance. And definitely a happy ever after. If it’s a series, even better. Immerse me in a world. Give me characters that touch my heart. If a book makes me laugh—you can bet I’ll look for more from that author. I want to feel good after I’m done. That doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and unicorns. I want the situation to be honest. Yes, even in fantasy. When characters triumph over circumstances, and healing and love overcome pain and trouble, it gives me hope even when things are trying in my own life.

With my own work, I like to reflect on these things, and my books are as variable as the reading I do. The range is from sweet contemporary to epic fantasy with mid-grade and paranormal in the mix. All my stories are about family and friends who are family. I hope to make my reader cry, laugh, and sometimes have righteous anger. But mostly, I want them to fall in love with the stories and embrace the players in them.

Thank you for wanting to learn about me. I love chatting with readers and talking about books.

Excerpt

“Boardwalk Books. Can I help you?”

“Sophia Rose Baylor, what are you doing answering the phone?” Calliope held the phone out and glared at it like her daughter could see the mother’s look. “Where’s Mrs. Booker?”

“She’th right here. Aren’t you, Mithus Booker.” That toothless lisp was hysterical, and if Calliope wasn’t so startled to hear her kid answering the phone at another business, she would’ve died laughing. “I’m in training.”

Calliope bit her cheek. “May I speak with your boss, please?”

“Wanths to talk to you.”

“Calliope, dear. Everything is fine, and my newest employee has been charming customers all afternoon.”

Excerpt

“Do you mind if I wait until the tow truck gets here?” He plucked the wet shirt away from his chest with the long fingers of one tanned hand. “It must be electrical, even the radio stopped working.”

“No, you’re welcome to hang around as long as you need.” Gloriana riffled through a cardboard box under the counter, pulled out an extra-large t-shirt, and tossed it to him. “Here you go. The restroom is through there.”

Mr. Gorgeous beamed a perfect toothy smile. “Thanks. I’ll be right back.”

When he disappeared into the hallway and the door clicked shut, Gloriana fanned her face. What the hot fudge was wrong with her? “Coffee. Make coffee.”

Excerpt

“Come on, gorgeous.” Hugh slunk up behind her again, his plummy voice sliding over her like mold on fruit. “You like the attention. Stop playing hard to get.”

Zahra Corbyn flinched. Between the wind blowing and her fascination with the choppy waters off Cape Cod, she’d missed the sound of his approach. This man needed to leave her alone. The jerk saw her USO dancing-and-singing act overseas and decided she was easy. Though World War II was over, this battle raged on. She turned and stiff-armed him to keep him away. “I’ve told you more than once—I’m not interested.”

“Listen, chippies like you are nothing but teases.” He grabbed her wrist. A greasy lock of dark hair fell across his forehead. “I…

“It’s lady, jerk.” She let her arm go soft as she kicked out and broke the hold. “And I said, ‘no’.”

Taking a boxer’s stance, she fisted her hands. This guy picked the wrong woman to mess with. Zahra knew how to take care of herself.

A sneer crossed his face under the bushy eyebrows and wide flat nose, but he turned away.

Zahra relaxed. After being released with the last USO troop, she was tired and wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Besides, the ocean waves called to her.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw him swing back around with a viper’s speed.

She whirled about.

His shoulder hit her stomach.

“Oomph.”

“You tease. I’ll show you.” He rushed forward. “Filthy Jezebel.”

Zahra flailed when he pitched her over the rail of the steamer.

The sneering smile got smaller, and he saluted before the frigid Atlantic water closed over her.

Excerpt

A roar erupted from across the camp.

All movement ceased in the clearing except near where the Darrian fought. Even the remaining wolf paused and turned.

Abelard’s fingers went cold when he didn’t see her. Then a black shape exploded out of the pile of wolves.

He’d always thought the stories about Darrians were symbolic. What he saw was terrifying and definitely not symbolic. The black panther devastated the wolves surrounding it in mere moments.

It leaped at the next wolf standing near Lang and rolled it away from him. Lang, no longer in danger from the creature, scrambled for his bow.

The last of the wolves returned his attention to Abelard leaping. Too late, he was on the ground once more. His hands grabbed either side of its neck. His grip slipped from the fur where he’d scruffed it. Its hot breath made him grimace, unable to avoid the saliva dripping from its snapping jaws as the fangs came closer.

Abelard gritted his teeth and closed his eyes, waiting for the bite. Then came a jerk. He was free.

Opening his eyes, he saw the black cat tumble away with the wolf in a mass of fur, fangs, and claws.

 The panther saved his life.

Wolf and cat disappeared into the woods closest to them. Growls followed by a yelp filled the air.

Radek, no longer under attack, stalked over to Abelard. He stood, chest heaving, over the dead animal at their feet and spit to the side.

“This assignment fails to amuse me, Ayer,” he griped while wiping the sweat from his face.
