Excerpt

A young man, who appeared to be in his twenties, came into view. He made a slight bow. “I was informed you needed to move something.”

“Yes,” Madame Shariff said. “Her.” She pointed at the statue.

The young man glanced at the figure of Ishtar and then at Madame Shariff. “I’ll need to get a crew and equipment.”

“That will not be necessary,” Madame Shariff said. “Just look at her.”

As the man did so, he began to smile lasciviously.

“She is beautiful,” said Madame Shariff. “Is she not?”

The gray stone woman came alive, and her eyes locked on the young man’s. She began to sing an ancient song. She stopped, and a smile spread across the gray woman’s face. Her wings spread, and her smile became a feral snarl. Shrieking, she dove at the man, flipping as she flew to present her talons. In a fury, she tore the young man to shreds.

Flesh, blood, and entrails flew around the warehouse, splattering both women. Instead of being revolted at the carnage, Maara turned to her benefactor and smiled. “She should prove useful!”
