Title: Fated Hearts, A Love After All Retelling of the Scottish Play

Author: Alina K. Field

Genre: Regency Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Plagued by hellish memories and rattling visions of battle to come, a Scottish Baron returning from two decades at war meets the daughter he denied was his, and the wife he divorced, and learns that everything he’d believed to be true was a lie. What he can’t deny is that she’s the only woman he’s ever loved. They’re not the young lovers they once were, but when passion flares, it burns more hotly than ever it did in their youth.

They soon discover, it wasn’t fate that drove them apart, but a jealous enemy, who played on his youthful arrogance and her vulnerability. Now that old enemy has resurfaced, more treacherous than ever. When his lady falls into a trap, can he reach her in time to rescue this love that never died?

Fated Hearts is part of the Tragic Characters in Classic Literature series, wherein with complete artistic license, and an abundance of hubris, a group of Regency romance authors are retelling some of the great stories of literature, setting them in Georgian England and giving these tragic heroes and heroines a happily-ever-after.

My Review:

"Something wicked this way comes." ~ Macbeth, William Shakespeare

After more than two decades away at war, the last thing Finnley Macbeth expects to see is his ex-wife Greer. He's so overcome with emotion, he faints. When he meets Greer's daughter, Lucie, he begins to wonder if what he was told was a complete lie. Is Lucie his own daughter? He's always loved Greer and when passion ignites between them again, after all these years, it's like no time has passed. Both Finnley and Greer realize it wasn't fate that drove them apart but a bitterly envious enemy, an enemy who now is more entrenched in their lives than before and vows revenge. Can Finnley defeat this enemy once and for all or will these fated hearts remain forever apart?

Fated Hearts is an exquisite retelling of the famous Scottish Play by Shakespeare but set in the Regency era. I've been a huge fan of this play for many years and it was so much fun to read Alina K. Field's twist on the story. From the very first page, I was hooked. I couldn't stop reading it until the very end. Greer and Finnley are second chance lovers and even with the huge rift between them, they can't deny the love between them. Alina K. Field is a research phenom, it's one of the reasons why she's one of my favorite authors to read. With Fated Hearts, she took a historical story known to the world and moved it into the Regency time period. All the Macbeth characters are accounted for and it added to the depth of the story to see them in a completely different setting. The plot moves at a good pace with plenty of suspense, romance, and intrigue plot twists to keep the reader entertained. The characters, though, are what drive the plot. There's a full cast of characters and they left an indelible impression on me. This is, hands down, one of the best Regency romances I've ever read and it only makes me want to read more from Alina K. Field. If you're a Regency reader, you'll love Fated Hearts. If you're a fan of the infamous Scottish Play, you'll want to read this brilliant retelling. If you're a historical romance reader, you'll be swept away by Fated Hearts. Highly recommend!

Author Biography:

USA Today bestselling author Alina K. Field earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and German literature but prefers the much happier world of romance fiction. Though her roots are in the Midwestern U.S., after six very, very, very cold years in Chicago, she moved to Southern California, where she shares a midcentury home with her husband and a spunky, blond rescued terrier. She is the author of several Regency romances, including the 2014 Book Buyer’s Best winner, Rosalyn’s Ring. Though hard at work on her next series of romantic adventures, she loves to hear from readers!
