What do you do when you've just been told your life ends on your eighteenth birthday? And the person who told you is the vampire who calls himself your stepfather? If your name's Astrid Sonnschein, you put up a fight.

Astrid escapes to start a new life in a new town, but soon finds out that nothing lasts forever. Living a lie proves to be more than a challenge, and Astrid is soon tracked down by the one person she hoped never to see again.

To make things even more complicated, she falls for Mike, a handsome young cop who has every last girl in town under his spell. Will Astrid be able to keep her guard up, or will her new love be her downfall?

My Review:

Astrid Sonnschein yearns for something new, something exciting. Sure, she’s half-vampire but trust me, that gets old after awhile. She wants to experience all that she can, so she talks her mother and stepfather into letting her live among humans. Sounds easy, right? Umm, not so much, especially when she moves into her very religious aunt’s house. It’s quite an adjustment to see crucifixes everywhere and go to church. She tries to fit in, but it soon becomes hard for Astrid to continue to live a lie. She even goes so far as to fall for a guy she shouldn’t. Can she truly be herself and have a happily ever after with Mike or will she follow in her mother’s footsteps?

Fifty Percent Vampire is a feast for vampire/paranormal readers. It’s got classic vampire lore blended with teen angst and a full cast of characters. From the moment I started reading, I connected with Astrid and her quest for independence. It’s what every young adult craves, no matter if you drink blood or pop. The plot moves at a consistent pace with a fair bit of angst. Emotional narration connects you with the characters. The ending shocked me but, at the same time, totally made me smile. If you love reading vampire stories, you’ll want to read Fifty Percent Vampire. If you’re a fan of Bella and Sookie, this is your next must-read! If YA Paranormal is your addiction, get your fix with Fifty Percent Vampire. Highly recommend!
