My Review:
Jim Turner is on a quest to fulfill his grandfather’s wish to write a heroic love story. Jim’s out of his element as he normally writes crime but he’s on a journey of his own. Things go sideways when he meets Chastity then his editor goes missing and there’s a murder. Can Jim be the hero like in his grandfather’s stories? Or has he written himself as the villain?
I’ve never read anything quite like I Have a Story. It’s very different from what Colleen L Donnelly normally writes. It’s a terrific blend of historical romance and literary fiction. The narration is equal parts descriptive and emotional. Jim’s point of view is immersive and allows the reader to see everything through Jim. The historical tidbits add depth to the story. The mystery and intrigue took me by surprise. The characters, though, are what make I Have a Story an unforgettable read.
Jim is the main character in this story. He’s a paradox, truly, and at a crossroads in his life. Rumors of war batter at his conscience and he wants to make a difference. But when it’s time for his character to act, he’s unsure what to do. His journey throughout the story had me whipping through the pages.
Colleen L Donnelly has penned an incredible story full of emotion, depth, and heroism. Take my advice and read I Have a Story. It’s an example of how circumstances can alter your perspective.
