Title: If Ever in Love

Author: Ann M. Trader

Genre: Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

Camden, South Carolina 1783

Colonial Captain Harry Fleming wears his passions like badges of honor, a man considered by most as smart, decisive…even impulsive. With the Patriot victory and his fighting days behind him, his homecoming sours when he discovers his homestead in shambles and childhood sweetheart married to his cousin.

Most comfortable in breeches and with her trusty hound by her side, Olivia Parr is a half-white/half-native healer…a resourceful woman and no man’s puppet. Yet when her path collides with the dashing captain, his charm makes her dream of a life and home like none she has ever known.

Loathe to become a hermit, Harry proposes a marriage to Olivia based on devotion. Will she wager her heart to a man hardened to love? As unresolved feelings linger and enemies plot against them for greed and gain, will they risk all and unveil the truth of what lovers must do…if ever in love?

My Review:

Can love based on devotion overcome greed, betrayal, and avarice? For as long as I can remember, the late 18th century America has fascinated me. I’ve longed to escape modern day life and live for a short while in this era. This book transported me in all aspects, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The plot was complex with quite a few characters to keep track of. The pacing was smooth with emotional tension brought on by circumstances and family relations. There was a lot of historical details peppered throughout the story, all of which were accurate to the time period. Brilliantly executed, as it made the setting, characters, and romance authentic.

The characters were so emotive, I connected with them right away. Harry returned from fighting for his country to discover betrayal upon betrayal. The woman he loved marries his cousin. Talk about cruel. Sweet Olivia has her own fair share of troubles. Together, they discover what real love means. The characters were so well-written, I became emotionally invested.

This historical romance is beautifully written and at times, tore my heart to bits. It filled my romantic soul with so many emotions, I was emotionally drained when I finished reading. A stunning romance from start to finish. I strongly recommend this book!

Author Biography:

I enjoy spending time with my family, trying out new recipes, and relaxing on my back porch to read and write. These days I take walks around my neighborhood, but when I was sixteen, I hiked the Grand Canyon with a group of friends. I love watching television dramas (in no special order: Stranger Things, Succession, Bridgerton, The Gilded Age, The Last Kingdom, 1883, Outlander, Poldark, Yellowstone, Outer Banks, and Peaky Blinders) and reading a great romance book.
