Title: Lyon in the Way: The Lyon’s Den Connected World

Author: Regina Jeffers

Genre: Romantic suspense; Regency romance; mystery and suspense; British Historical Lit; British and Scottish Lit; historical cozy mystery; mystery series; Historical Fiction Romance

Book Blurb:

For over a year, Lord Richard Orson has been quietly captivated by the unconventional Lady Emma Donoghue. Headstrong, brilliant, and unapologetically involved in causes that rattle Society’s comfort, Emma is nothing like the debutantes he’s expected to court.

But when he finds her bruised, confused, and alone in Covent Garden after midnight, Richard is thrust into a far more dangerous game.

Someone wants Emma silenced. And now, Richard has only moments to uncover the truth, protect her from harm, and keep her out of scandal’s reach. But staying focused is harder than he imagined—especially when every glance, every accidental touch, reminds him how perfectly she fits in his arms.

As danger closes in and secrets are revealed, Richard must decide whether he’s willing to risk his life—and his heart—for a woman who’s always been worth the fight.

A suspenseful, slow-burn Regency romance where danger ignites desire, and love must outpace the clock.

This is a five-book series:

Lyon in the Way (releasing June 18, 2025)

Lyon’s Obsession (releasing September 17, 2025)

Lyon in Disguise (releasing December 17, 2025)

Lost in the Lyon’s Garden (releasing March 18, 2026)

Lyon on the Inside (releasing June 20, 2026)

Each book is a romantic suspense with an overlying cozy mystery tying them all together. The heroes are all “brothers,” adopted by a Scottish earl, who has trained them to be agents of the Home Office.

My Review:

Lord Richard is enamored with unconventional Lady Emma. She’s different from all the other women he’s encountered in the Ton. She speaks up for causes and for those less fortunate. When Richard discovers Emma in Covent Gardens after midnight, he acts quickly. He must protect Emma from harm and scandal and is thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Can Richard uncover who wants Emma silenced forever without losing his heart?

Lyon in the Way is a breathtaking Regency romantic suspense I couldn’t put down. The descriptive narration pulls the reader into the story from the first page. Every detail is sumptuously described, which makes for an entertaining reading experience. The world-building is lush. But it’s the characters which make this an unputdownable read.

Lady Emma is an unconventional heroine. She defies society’s norms and is a champion for causes, people and circumstances a proper lady has no right to be involved with. Her intelligence only adds to my admiration for Emma. I connected with her in so many ways.

The romance is slow-burn but so satisfying. Regina Jeffers starts with a spark of attraction and builds layer upon layer until love blooms. There is intrigue as well as danger mingling with romance which only made me read faster.

I’ve been a huge fan of Regina Jeffers and her books for many years. This is her first book with Dragonblade Publishing and it’s a beautiful historical romance. Fans of Grace Callaway and Sarah E. Ladd will love Lyon in the Way. I look forward to reading more from Regina Jeffers.
