5++ stars for Key of Silence (Beacon Pointe Book 4) by Judy Kentrus #romanticsuspense #bookreview

Title: Key of Silence (Beacon Pointe Book 4)

Author: Judy Kentrus

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Irene Hennypenny’s world has been silent since she was ten years old. She can speak and is proficient at lip reading. Bell, her hearing dog, is her constant companion. She’s been anxious to receive her birthday “key” and riddle. Knowing her sister’s difficult challenges, she’s anticipating a troublesome task. Her apprehension spikes when part of her riddle tells her to listen…but she’s deaf.

It had all come down to her key quest. Would they really find a treasure?

Christian McBride is a fire marshal in Beacon Point and a widower, raising Evie, his six-year-old daughter. The small fires an arsonist started has escalated to businesses in the old part of town. When a body is discovered in the basement of an antique shop, he’s further challenged when he learns the building had once been owned by a distant relative.

When he’s asked to be a groomsman at his best friend’s wedding, he’s partnered with Irene Hennypenny, one of the most fascinating women he’s ever met. Little did either of them realize their “future” was decided by generations from past lives.

My Review:

Irene is the youngest sister, and her riddle and key leads her to test her resolve and open her heart to the greatest treasure of all: love. Key of Silence is the last book in this series, and it delivers with a sweeping romance, emotional narration, the mystery of the series comes to a surprising ending, and the treasure is revealed. The world-building is immersive and historically accurate. What makes this such an incredible read comes down to the mystery and unearthing the treasure. Second to that is the romance between Irene and Chris. With so much at stake, Key of Silence is a romantic suspense I couldn't put down. I lost sleep over this one.

Let's start with the world-building. Throughout the series, there's been a mystery to solve. Each sister has had a riddle and key to solve. Each sister not only finds their beloved but unveils family secrets. With Irene, the youngest sister, the final riddle leads the whole family on a roller coaster of emotions, suspense, intrigue, and danger. The world-building is so well done with immaculate continuity, it's quite impressive. Judy Kentrus brings historical accuracy to the series and to this book.

The characters are well-written with realism, emotion, and a touch of intrigue. I have grown to love these sisters and Irene is my favorite. She's a baker which I identified with. She's also built a wall around her heart due to being deaf. My heart broke for her and what she's gone through. Irene's inner thoughts are emotive and connected me with her. The rest of the characters are written so well, they leap from the page. By the time I finished reading, these characters became a part of me.

The narration is descriptive and very emotional. What makes this book impactful is the narration. Both Chris and Irene have gone through so much and it has shaped who they are. Overcoming obstacles and emotional issues are the crux for this couple. Every scene, every thought, every moment is poignantly described. Judy Kentrus does a magnificent job grabbing the reader through the narration while not overdoing it. The narration flows naturally, and this makes it impossible to put down.

The romance is a bit of enemies to lovers romance with a lot more going on. Chris is a definite cinnamon roll hero but he's also a widowed single dad who's a firefighter. The sparks fly between them right away but it's a slow burn romance. I like the realism Judy Kentrus puts into this romance. There are plenty of swoon-worthy scenes, especially the end. The ending made my heart overflow with emotion.

If you're looking for a romantic suspense worthy of an award among romance readers, Key of Silence is it.
