My Review:

 

Envy is a teen who performs nightly at an exclusive casino in Vegas. She lives what some might call a gilded cage lifestyle and her mother’s Sugar Daddy has the only set of keys. Innocent, she’s not, but then again, when it comes to handsome daemon, she can’t resist. A bet goes horribly wrong and suddenly she’s exposed. Her identity is shattered, and she has no choice but to run. Between her mother blaming her for the mess they’re now in, a strange ability to combust, and secrets revealed, Envy will have to figure out how to control her stigmata. If she can’t, everything will go up in flames.

 

Playing With Fire is an urban fantasy origin story about Envy. Granted you still have the same snark and sarcasm, that is her signature mood, but you see her life unravel when the truth about who she is slaps her in the face. How she reacts and deals with all the secrets her mother has been harboring is on full display. Plus, there’s fire. Who doesn’t love instant combustion?

 

AK Nevermore has penned an incredible short story full of snark and fury. The continuity is flawless to align with the other books in this series. The world-building is lush and colorful. The characters are such fun to read and interact with.

 

If you like urban fantasy with a foul-mouthed heroine, you need to read Playing With Fire. Highly recommend.
