Everest Base Camp: Close Call by Catina Noble
Ran into a small setback last night. They have been keeping track of our oxygen since we arrived in Lukla. They test oxygen levels after our briefing. Our oxygen levels have to be between 80-83%. Mine came back at 74%, which was too low.
After hearing that I kind of started falling apart. But then I remembered it was out of my hands. I’ve worked hard and done extremely well to get to this point. I am reaching for my dreams. That a’s more than a lot of other people have the courage or opportunity to do. If I am done with Everest, I am done. If my dream stops here, so be it. At least I will still be in Nepal for a few days more. I have kissed Everest—although not as intimately as I would have liked. Another country has been added to my bucket list and another item crossed off. I was told they would check my levels in the morning. If they haven’t improved, I won’t be allowed to continue. It will be over. Oh, woe is me!

I didn’t want to let the woman go. She was a complete stranger. She might have served me dinner the night before. I hadn’t noticed. Sometimes, you get too caught up to notice the little things.
