5+ stars for Sage (Book 4 in The Chimeras) by P.L. Parker #scifiromance #postapocalyptic #ku #bookreview

Title: Sage (Book 4 in The Chimeras)

Author: P.L. Parker

Genre: Scifi/post-apocalyptic romance

Book Blurb:

The invasion of an alien race known as the Friem has left humanity cowering in fear and hiding in underground bunkers as the invaders ravage the planet. The surviving humans are hunted to be used as slave labor, and those who fight are killed. For what remains of the resistance, resources are slim and time is running out.

Like all of her half sisters, Sage was genetically enhanced for the fight against the Friem. Bred to be a warrior, she’s tough, bitchy, and mean, and there isn’t a damn person on the planet who can best her in a fight. A law unto herself, she gives little thought to what people think of her because if something needs doing, she knows she’s the one they call. The only person she really needs is herself, until Gideon enters the picture.  As the only pilot around who can provide the training she needs, she’ll do whatever it takes to work with him. When playing nice to get what she wants subtly changes to something more, will Sage let him in? Or will this tough-as-nails warrior fight those feelings to the bitter end?

My Review:

Gideon rubs Sage the wrong way but if she flips the script, can he rub her heart the right way? Sage is a post-apocalyptic, enemies to lovers, romantic adventure I couldn’t put down. The setting and world-building pulls the reader into the future but with a survivalist edginess. The narration is immersive with deep POV. The characters, though, are what make Sage an unputdownable read.

Let’s start with the characters. Sage is a combative character and should actually be named Salt, for she’s one salty heroine. She’s defensive and stands up to all those who challenge her. She speaks the truth, too. She wants to be a pilot so she needs to play nice to Gideon so she can learn how to fly. This is a huge struggle for her. Love comes calling and she isn’t prepared for it. Sags is one of those heroines who will burrow her way into your heart. Beautifully written, she makes this book impossible to put down.

The world-building is spectacular. It’s difficult to write a world that is both familiar and post-apocalyptic. This is what P.L. Parker excels at. Her gift for building her world through words is on display here. If you want to get lost in a post-apocalyptic world, you’ll dive into Sage with ease.

The narration and POV make this an absorbing read. The emotions of the characters, action, tension, and situations grab a hold of the reader and don’t let go.

If you’re a science fiction/post-apocalyptic romance reader, you’ll love Sage. The ending shocked me to the core so I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Author Biography:

P.L. Parker was born and raised in Idaho where she lives with her three sons, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and now a little great granddaughter. She is an amateur Squatcher and can be found at times in the wilds of Idaho with her oldest son looking for the elusive creature.

Ms. Parker writes stories with alpha males and strong, determined women. Science fiction and time travel are her genres of choice but she has tried her hands at paranormal. Besides her stand-alone novels, she has three series: The Chimeras and The Star Brides, science fiction romances, and Time Warriors, time travel romances.
