Title: The Spymaster’s Secret

Author: Alanna Lucas

Genre: Historical Romance-Regency

Book Blurb:

The Spy Who Loved Him…

When Athena, Lady Tremayne, finds a mysterious man lying unconscious in her Devon estate, her first assumption is he’s a henchman of Typhon, the evil insurgency intent on bringing down the British monarchy. But further investigation reveals the intruder is Sir Simon Standen, the Legion’s master spy, and the rakish scoundrel responsible for the deaths of her mother and fiancé.

As another loyal member of the Legion, Athena is bound to offer Sir Simon her protection. But it’s an obligation that sears her soul. Not only is he a murderer but once she fancied herself half in love with him—and he apparently remembers nothing as he’s suffering from amnesia.

As Simon convalesces, Athena finds herself falling for him all over again. But unless his memory fully returns and she can discover why he did what he did that traumatic night six years ago, she cannot risk her heart…

My Review:

After two weeks of searching, the Legion assumes Sir Simon is dead at the hands of the evil group known as Typhon. No one knows the truth, that Simon is under the care of the only woman who loves and despises him, Lady Athena Tremayne. When he awakens, he has no memory. Athena doesn’t know if this is another one of Simon’s tricks or he truly cannot remember his own name of the fact he’s one of the top spymasters in the Legion. Well, two can play at this game. She wants answers why he killed her mother and fiancée six years ago and she intends to get it. Only the answers infuriate her more than she cares to admit. Does she still love Simon? Can she ever forgive him for the crimes against her family and her broken heart?

I waited eighteen months for this book and boy, oh boy, it was worth the wait. The story of Simon and Athena gripped me from the beginning. A spy in love with the spy who murdered her mother and fiancée. Talk about intense. Athena is a strong character and I clung to her immediately. Her pain broke my heart but as I kept reading, I kept nudging her to discover the truth. The scenes between Athena and Simon were filled with emotional angst. The action scenes were intense and I kept hoping to see Athena in action. Psst, I wasn’t disappointed. She is one tough fighter and spy for the Legion. The ending caught me by surprise and I squeezed my tablet when I was finished.

If you’re looking for a Regency romance with a strong heroine, a hero who gave up his own happiness to be labeled a murderer and a love which binds them together. You’ll swoon, cry, gasp and fall in love. A must read!

Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I’d review it.

Favorite Character/Quote:

Athena’s gaze was intense, as if searching deep into his soul, and for the first time in his life, he was willing to let someone see him, see his darkest desires and brightest hopes.
