Title: Shadowfall: Vol TWO - The Amalie Noether Chronicles

Author: Jana Williams

Genre: Science Fiction

Book Blurb:

Freefall (Vol 1 of the Amalie Noether Chronicles) concluded with Elle renouncing any ties to the community at First Landing. She dreamed of setting out on a great trek to explore their new planet – and is utterly prepared to start the trek on her own if no one else sees the merit in such a journey. But to her surprise Ashok and Achebe decide to accompany her – along with many new colonists who had made landfall after the initial wave of landings. Jin-Hai, Jack and Micah all choose to stay behind to begin building a community at First Landing. And Hershcel Station quickly becomes a community center in its own right. Life is finding its compass after the chaos that happened aboard the Vera Rubin in transit. Questions still remain unanswered from their journey to the new planet. Elle worries that the saboteur they thought was aboard the Vera Rubin, might now be living amongst them? Is he, or she, on the trek she will lead? If so, what might that mean for the journey they undertake. So many questions remain unanswered. Elle fully expects Amalie Noether will offer up more questions, than answers as they start their great walk through the wilderness. Elle knows the events they will experience in the vast barrens of Amalie Noether will shape the Trekkers as a people and as a culture. She both fears and welcomes the challenges ahead of them. Join Elle – share the trek that will shape the many future generations to come on Amalie Noether. A trek from which legends will rise. Start the adventure!

My Review:

After renouncing all ties to the First Landing community, Elle gathers a group of colonists and gets ready to explore the planet, Amalie Noether, they now call home. It takes a strong leader to herd all the opposing views to one vision and Elle is the right person to do it. As they establish ground rules for those who are exploring the planet and recording their findings, Elle worries the saboteur aboard the Vera Rubin now lives among them. Who is it and what is his/her plans? Can she stop him/her before they do irreparable damage to the planet Elle loves so much?

Shadowfall picks up right where Freefall leaves off. Jana Williams lets the next volume in this series unfold with a captivating journey, intriguing characters, plenty of conflicts to overcome with a spirit of explorers woven throughout. Each chapter leads to the next with descriptive narration so vivid, it transports the reader into outer space. Emotional experiences connect the reader with the characters and there’s a bit of suspense as to whether the sinister people will get caught. There are certain themes going on underneath the plot which makes me ponder philosophical beliefs and the intricacies of society. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading Freefall, too. A brilliant science fiction adventure and one I highly recommend!
