Title: Spiritual Rebel: A Positively Addictive Guide to Finding Deeper Perspective and Higher Purpose
Author: Sarah Bowen
Genre: Spiritual Growth, Spiritual Self-Help
A God-optional approach to spirituality that draws on ancient wisdom and modern pop culture
“A must-read for anyone seeking to find or deepen their spiritual path.” —Francesco Mastalia, author of Yoga: The Secret of Life
“I highly recommend this for anyone who is exploring new avenues for their spiritual discoveries.” —Dr. Steven Farmer, author of Animal Spirit Guides and other books
“What I love about Sarah Bowen’s book is the freedom I find in reading it. Like Han Solo, she races through the galaxy of our spiritual assumptions, blasting away our mental meteors with her humor, to unveil the real path home.” —Brett Bevell, author of Psychic Reiki and other books
“With a balance of careful scholarship and refreshing irreverence, Spiritual Rebel offers a treasure map to the best of the wisdom traditions, reimagined for a contemporary circle of seekers.” —Mirabai Starr, author of Wild Mercy and other books
An indispensable guide for seekers, those newly embarking on a spiritual journey, or members of spiritual communities, Spiritual Rebel is for anyone who desires meaningful spiritual experiences without having to commit exclusively to one path or having to fear they might be “doing it wrong.” May this diverse collection of practices and resources inspire the Force within you, by whatever name you call it!
There is a myriad of books on the market to help people find their way through this tricky world. It could take a lifetime to simply find the ones that might apply to your exact situation. The author here has done the leg work for you. Through her incredibly well written journey, she has tried and tasted most every kind of spiritual way that exists.
The key here is not to follow her way in exactitude. The journey to your own level of preferred spiritual awareness is an incredibly personal one. No one needs to be directed by a herder or led like a lemming over a certain spiritual cliff.
The author illustrates many handy ways a person could use to help find themselves when faced with the low point that most humans find themselves in. Each reader will find something in this book that resonates with them and that is one of the key benefits of this work.
For this reader, the simply philosophical idea that I will paraphrase: stop fighting against what you don't like and change yourself to get the most out of it. My wife and I did that in January of this year when we consciously decided to love every day. Hating Mondays only made us give up 14.3% of our potential life enjoyment. We found our inspiration for this from Winnie The Pooh but there are a million ways listed in this book for everyone to try (or not...not all works for everyone!).
Not a simple read but when you get to the aha moment that works for you, this book has done its job.
A solid edition to the self-help spiritual world.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the publisher via Edelweiss in the hopes I’d review it.

Sarah Bowen is a multifaith spiritual educator and speaker, and an aspiring Jedi.
As a member of One Spirit Interfaith Seminary’s faculty, Spiritual Directors International, and several recovery communities, she seeks to help others connect with the higher power of their own understanding. Passionate about the world’s great faith traditions, Sarah is a graduate of One Spirit and has studied at Chicago Theological Seminary, Emerson Theological Institute, Chopra Center, and Omega Institute. She is especially interested in the intersection of animal welfare and spiritual values and a fierce advocate for all creatures, and she currently serves as an animal chaplain.
Before starting her spiritual journey, Sarah spent a few decades as a designer and brand strategist in New York City. Her first book, Void If Detached: Seeking Modern Spirituality Through My Father’s Old Sermons (Epigraph Publishing, 2017), has received several awards.
Sarah splits her time between New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen and the Hudson Valley, where she lives with her artist husband Sean Bowen, two rebellious black cats named Deacon and Buba-ji, Picasso the rescued goldfish, Max the squirrel, and a backyard full of yet-to-be-named critters.
