Title: A Week With Enya: We live blind...

Author: Amar B. Singh

Genre: Religious & Inspirational Poetry

Book Blurb:

We know how to solve problems. Where we don't, we read, we ask, we learn and then, we solve! What happens when there are no answers though? When nobody in the world knows! When we see the need to invent Gods even if we can't discover Him. Through a string of poems, the author narrates such an experience with his non-verbal and autistic daughter, Enya.

What started as a week of babysitting for him soon became a seeking to change her into 'normal'. But, that seeking ended up transforming the seeker! The narrative in the form of poetry touches upon the revelation that comes out of desperation of not finding an answer at all and therefore, the thoughts getting tired of themselves and the mind taking a back seat. In that silence, the author says, things become clear and all aspects of life show their inter-relation! The intellect gives way to the intelligence, the body and mind as 'me' gives way to the world as 'me'! The mind map once seen, one starts to see the true nature of the 'me' and that perspective and clarity make everything clear and possible in life...

My Review:

A really well-done effort by a quality poet. This is one of the best poetry books I have seen in the 21st century. The author uses poetry to explore the feelings and emotions that came from spending a week alone with his Autistic daughter. The author questions the diagnosis and I can easily see why one would. The issue of autism is 10% a significant health issue and 90% diagnosis made to ensure Big Pharma keeps the cash rolling in.

There is a great spiritual aspect to this work. As you read and reflect on the prose you will be surprised where your own mind takes you. This is a thoughtful and compassionate book. This is a book that is very revealing and shows someone still attempting to grasp who they really are. Isn't that something we all face? I recommend this to anyone. A very professionally written poetry book that drips with meaning and emotion.

Author Biography:

Born in Jamshedpur, India, in 1979, Amar B. Singh grew up in the township of Telco Colony. His early schooling was at the Chinmaya Vidyalaya which helped shape his interest in Hindu Vedanta philosophy. In 1997, he went to Bihar Institute of Technology, where he studied metallurgical engineering. He went to XLRI, Jamshedpur for his MBA and studied finance and strategy for his major areas. He later added the LLB degree to his educational qualifications.

He worked across areas of finance, marketing and strategy but he refuses to brand and limit himself to any name or function, that can define him. This existential question of who we are, remains his essential point across all his writings.

About his own work, Amar has said that he is helping create conditions for a more perceptive society – a society that doesn’t live blind. His poems and narratives have the ancient wisdom of religion and culture embroidered together with the context of the modern day. The early influences on him, of the great epics, run like a thread through all that he writes.

Amar’s interest areas lie in philosophy, psychology, religion, and more specifically, into the concept of human existence w.r.t space and time. He sees science and religion as two sides of the same coin. In his own words, “a non-scientific person cannot be truly religious, and a non-religious person will never know beyond the known sciences.”
