Title: Double or Nothing

Author: Clabe Polk

Genre: Historical Mystery, Suspense Fiction, Short Story

Book Blurb:

The Great Cuban Hurricane of 1910 stuck western Cuba, and then turned and struck Cuba a second time doing untold damage and killing hundreds.

Some said the storm was the work of the Devil. Some of the older folks said the Devil drove teams of demons with whips through the Cuban mountains clearing paths wherever they went.

But at the hurricane’s height, on October 18th, witnesses say a strange poker game was played in the bar of the Schultz House Hotel in Punta Rassa, Florida.

My Review:

Short stories can be tricky as authors don't have the luxury of pages to build characters and back story and must drop right into the meat of the story.

This author overcomes this challenge with a simple story that keeps the reader wondering if what they are reading is really what is going on. Set in a terrific setting and the characters are less and more than you think.

This story is gripping and not surprisingly, I had 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' and the late great TV show 'Key West' in my head as I enjoyed this.

A superb little story that stands with any great short story on the market.

My Rating: 5 stars
