Title: Steinar, The Wolves of Clan Sutherland, Book 3

Author: Mary Morgan

Genre: Viking Historical Paranormal Romance

Book Blurb:

Descended from the mighty Somerled, Lord of the Isles, Steinar MacDougall’s supremacy over the seas is fierce. On a quest for King William, he is captured by the enemy and presented with a favorable opportunity. Yet Steinar soon realizes his greatest threat comes from the woman who hides behind the mask of a warrior, and the quest for control might send them hurdling into the abyss of the sea.

As leader of the Serpents, Inga the Ruthless travels beyond the isles bartering for goods with her brothers. After rescuing the feared Pirate Wolf during a storm, she surrenders her trust to the man and his inner wolf in order to claim the lost treasure of Odin. Though the journey is fraught with dangers, Inga fears her heart might be the one in peril, leading her to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Will the sea be their salvation or doom them to a watery grave?

My Review:

Steinar is known as the Pirate Wolf, but he’s met his match when fierce Inga the Ruthless rescues him from a watery grave. Steinar is a breathtaking Viking paranormal romance worth reading. This is book three in the Wolves of Clan Sutherland series, but you can read it even if you haven’t read the other two. I’ve been waiting a year for this book, and it was worth it. Steinar is certain to sweep you away with its stunning world-building, descriptive narration, characters who’ll invade every part of you, and a forbidden romance. I couldn’t put it down and neither will you.

Let’s start with the world-building. Mary Morgan constructs worlds with the same precision as an architect. Every detail is expressed and builds upon the next detail until you have a beautiful world. The intricacy of her world is impressive while the continuity from book to book is seamless. Brilliant, as always.

The narration is full of details and emotion. Every scene is described so as to plunge you, the reader, into the story. Even something as benign as a guest room is described in lush detail. It’s lovely because the nuances of the scene feed my soul and allow me to escape to a different time and place.

The characters are so vibrant, so colorful, so full of life, they are the number one reason to read this book. Steinar is part of the brotherhood and is fiercely loyal to King William. He’s a wolf shifter, also known as the Pirate Wolf. The sea is part of him and he’s most comfortable at sea. Love and romance are not for him. But Inga changes everything. He’s a wonderful paradox and a true hero. He's brash yet thoughtful. He’s a warrior yet yearns for something more.

Inga is a Viking shieldmaiden and must be tough to command her men. She’s hard-nosed, logical, yet hides her beauty. She’s drawn to Steinar, and it scares her. She’s a strong heroine whom I admire.

The rest of the characters are not only historical accurate but add quite a bit of intrigue to the story. They also exude what it means to be a Viking.

If you’re a fan of Viking historical romance with a heavy dose of myth and paranormal, you’ll want to read this gem. I think it’s Mary Morgan’s finest work to date. I can’t wait for the next installment.

My Rating: 5++ stars
