Title: War of Nytefall: Rivalry

Author: Charles E. Yallowitz

Genre: Vampire/Fantasy Action Adventure

Book Blurb:

Seeking the pleasure of revenge, an ancient rumor will reveal herself to be a deadly legend. Lurking within the shadows for centuries, the Vampire Queen has been drawn to the conflict that surrounds Clyde. Only whispers have been spread about this elusive figure, who has amassed a kingdom that can rival Nyte and Nytefall. All that she is missing is the strongest vampire to crown as her king. In one fell swoop, she has taken the most powerful of her kind, including Clyde and Xavier Tempest. Hosting a tournament where the rules seem to change at her whim, the Vampire Queen threatens to shatter the already strained world that lurks beneath Windemere’s surface. Yet, there is more to her desires, which seep from a soul that is pulsing with fury. For her kingdom can never be complete until she holds the head of the one who wronged her centuries ago. Can Mab stand against her ancient rival and save her beloved partner?

My Review:

Another gem from the author of the Legends of Windemere series. Here you follow the two warring factions as they are forced to join together to face a challenge neither can take on by themselves.

The reader is taken deep into the world of Nyte and Nytefall in this book. The competition between Clyde and Xavier is always just bubbling below, if not bursting through, the surface. The character of Jewelz is a very well crafted Big Bad who is very easy to hate almost the second the reader meets her.

For this reader, the characters of Mob, Clyde and Lost are the highlights. The premise of the all-powerful Jewelz being able to dominate all without anyone being able to stop her went on just a little too long for this reader’s enjoyment.

The finale was, in my mind, a touch too quick. If a big bad is going to lord themselves all over and cause pain and suffering for hundreds of pages, then I need a good thirty pages of the big bad being slowly, painfully, humiliatingly taken down inch by excruciating inch with nothing it can do to stop it.

I was left with a bit of unease with the end of the book as it leaves it open for more Jewelz. I think I can state unequivocally that if the character of Jewelz never appeared again in this series, it would be too soon.

A creatively crafted tale with stark drama, excitement, intrigue and even some fun and romance.
